Overview
The Center for Improving Value in Health was established in 2020 with a mission to support health transformation in Saudi Arabia to deliver high-value health and care. Launching a health economics policy think tank is not a simple exercise; to do so during the COVID-19 pandemic, the most difficult global public health crisis for a generation, was a unique challenge.
In our 2020 Annual Report, we describe the progress made by the Center in its first year of operation. In 2020, the Center contributed to the global agenda for value-based healthcare through its support of Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency and hosted the new Global Innovation Hub for Improving Value in Health as a mechanism to exchange practical insights on value delivery between countries. A key contribution to the Saudi health system was the publication of a definition of value in health and care for Saudi Arabia, developed in collaboration with national policymakers and international experts. We also commenced our programs of knowledge collation, policy analysis, capability building and value measurement, including the launch of Saudi Arabia’s participation in the OECD’s global outcomes benchmarking study, Patient Reported Indicators Survey (PaRIS). We took important steps to establish the Center as an effective and credible think tank, engaging with national stakeholders and strengthening our team. The Annual report for 2020 concludes with a list of key priorities and initiatives for 2021.
